A two year deferral at Fairy Creek does nothing to dampen our spirits, rather, it serves to embolden us and expand our vision.
Truth is, we want to preserve all the rainforest. Fairy Creek is just the beginning. If a two year pause on logging tells me anything, it’s that in two years they plan to log it. So we have two years to complete our first deal on Fairy Creek and then move on to the Walbran or Caycuse or Edinburgh Mountain, if they are still there. Some of us have been fighting to preserve old growth forests in this province for over 40 years. Two years goes by fast. We hope to establish a fund that buys Preservation Rights on our ancient forests and preserves it for future generations while providing economic stimulus for communities that are forestry based.
We envision a day when preservation rights are up for sale at the same time as logging rights so people can wrench those special places from the grips of extraction industries and preserve them forever.
